性 无人售货

As Chinese society experiences drastic changes in its sex culture, people pay great attention to and tangle with sex-related art with a fierce attitude. Discussing sex here and now naturally involves the issue of macro-power. In the cracks of the macro-power structure, driven by the joint force of commercialized consumption and emancipating nature, young bodies have not completed sexual liberation to varying degrees.
—Li Yinhe on  「性 无人售货」

As young people, we don't seem to know that we are, in fact, not repressed. No one stops us from discussing sex, but it continues to be difficult for us to speak. So I attempted to open a gap in the scene and create a reason for the audience.
A roadside unattended adult goods store, fashioned with vending machines, was selected as the venue because of its capacity to be transformed into a social space. The project was abused and videotaped by many passers-by. Many passers-by leveled accusations of neurosis and perversion — yet they still crowded forward to watch and invited friends to join in the spectacle. There were instances of interference but no one was prevented from watching and joining. There even seemed to be a certain pleasure in being prevented from watching the performance; many covered their faces with their hands and peered out between their fingers. One spectator, wearing a hood and covering her face, masqueraded as a consumer. She used one of the vending machines to buy adult goods, but didn't allow us to watch her shopping, demanding the surrounding spectators leave her alone. What binds sex to the truth about ourselves? Why is it difficult to communicate?
